Kernersville, NC -- Wrap your mind around these numbers: more than 1200 volunteers serving over 4 days on 72 projects throughout the Triad.  You're talking more than 5,000 volunteer work hours.

Why? Because that's what The Big Serve is all about. One person can make a difference in our community if that one person is helped by another, and another, and another.

Three Triad churches joined together for The Big Serve. From Wednesday to Saturday, 5 habitat houses, 3 parks, 15 Triad schools, 4 non profit events, 6 fire stations, and countless non profit agencies will be "served".

Andy Cook, The Big Serve Director joined us live on Thursday at 5pm from one of the Big Serve Projects (single-mom's car care event at Express Oil Change & Service Center on Main Street in Kernersville).

"Each church looked at the needs right around them to pick the projects. Plus there's also a place for people in the community to submit project ideas on The Big Serve site, " says Cook.

He went on to say, "the great part about many of these projects is the kids can serve with you. It's a great way to show your kids how to help others. And everyone can do something-- from doing yardwork to manning a booth to answering phones, to stacking cans at the food bank."

Any church can participate next year. If you're looking for a way to serve soon-- check outUSA Today Weekend's Community Day on October 23rd. They have a list of projects. The only one scheduled on the day this story was posted is in Burlington. But more projects can be submitted.
