Winston-Salem, NC -- Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines said Monday morning that he would not seek the Democratic nomination for governor.
Last week, Joines had said via his Twitter page that he had been encouraged by his supporters to consider a run after Bev Perdue announced she wouldn't seek a second term.
Joines ended any speculation Monday saying that he would not run because there are still a number of issues he wants to work on in Winston-Salem.
Allen Joines is in his third term as mayor of Winston-Salem. He was first elected to the office in 2001.
