Eden, NC-- Police in Eden have opened an investigation into the death of an infant.
In a news release, officers said on Saturday, June 2 around 8:06 p.m., police were called to Morehead Memorial Hospital in reference to a possible child abuse case.
Hospital staff told the officer that they had concerns about a 5-month-old child who came to the facility with head trauma. The injuries were critical enough that the child was later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem for treatment.
Three days later, on Tuesday, Police were notified that the child had died at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The 5 month-old has been identified as Dagan Matthew Gammon.
Currently, detectives are consulting with the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for a cause of death as the investigation continues.
Police interviewed the child's mother, Dusty Gilley Gammon, the day the child was taken to Morehead Hospital.
They have not released any other details about what may have happened to the boy.
