Man Electrocuted Attempting To Steal Copper From Power Company Substation

Wentworth, NC-- A man is dead and investigators believe his death is related to attempted copper theft.

According to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office, the man was found around 3:00am Wednesday in Eden at the Virginia Solite Plant.

The man was identified Brandon Creasy, 23 of Eden, NC. The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office out of Virginia is investigating the death. Officers there said they believe Creasy was electrocuted while attempting to remove copper wiring from the substation.

The incident is still under investigation, but authorities are asking for help locating any other suspects or individuals who may have been involved with the attempted copper theft.

Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page released this statement about the incident, especially anyone contemplating stealing wiring and/or other electrical devices, such as air conditioner units, to think about the dangers involved in committing these crimes. "There is usually power flowing through these wires or devices as they are being stolen and it could result in someone being hurt or killed, so the best advice is not to try and steal them in the first place."
