Winston-Salem, NC -- Thursday is the first day back to school for most kids in our area. Sadly, many children will be heading to class without the supplies they need. But educators in Forsyth county are taking steps towards correcting that problem.

According to a 2010 National School Supply & Equipment Association survey, "each year, the average classroom teacher spends over $350 of their own money on classroom and instructional supplies.

Wednesday, the Forsyth Education Partnership and the Winston-Salem Forsyth County PTA Council cut the ribbon on the county's new Educator Warehouse.

It's on the campus of Diggs-Latham Elementary School, 986 Hutton Street. It will let Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School teachers get the supplies they need for free. WS/FCS Superintendent Dr. Donald Martin said, "Every teacher gets 25 points like money and you get to come three times a year and things are very inexpensive and they're able to come in and buy so its really a great opportunity."The educator warehouse will be open three days a week.

You can help the Warehouse keep the supplies they need to help the area's teachers. They're accepting tax deductible donations so they can purchase supplies to re-stock the warehouse.

Teaching and classroom supply items may be donated by contacting Aleta Bitting at aletasptamail@bellsouth.net or 336.682.5903.
