Greensboro, NC - More than a dozen young ladies from all over North Carolina are in Greensboro today and tomorrow for the Distinguished Young Woman of North Carolina Scholarship Program.

We caught them at rehearsal for their program called Living It Up Country Style.

"It's fun! It's a good way to be your best self as the scholarship program represents," said participant Priyanka Anand.

In the end the participants will split over $22,000 in scholarship money and the winner gets $10,000.  They all have college dreams, but for many of them, their reason for entering boils down to tradition.

"It's just a wonderful program.  It does wonderful things for young women and really helps people develop their talents and speaking skills and what their passionate about," said Christina Maxwell.  "But also because it's a family tradition. My mom did it when she was my age so it was always something as a little girl that I look forward to," said the 18-year-old from Asheville.

The 53rd Annual Distinguished Young Woman of North Carolina Scholarship Event is tonight and Saturday at the Greensboro War Memorial Auditorium at 7pm.  Tickets are available at the door.  You can find more information about the program by visiting www.distinguishedyw.com.
