Winston-Salem, NC -- Forsyth County Animal Control is offering a new incentive to adopt a dog or puppy from its shelter.

Through the Stay Together program, you receive four weeks of free dog training if you adopt a dog or puppy there.

The goal is to help owners with the transition and responsibility that comes with getting a dog.

A certified professional trainer, Melissa Legere, works with the dog owners to train their dogs at the shelter. The training is reward-based rather than correction-based and focuses on basics like having the dog respond to its name, meeting people politely, and walking on a leash.

It costs $102 to adopt a dog that is not spayed or neutered and $37 to adopt a dog that is spayed or neutered. Their cost for cats is $89 for one that is not spayed or neutered and $34 for a cat that is spayed or neutered.
