Forsyth County, NC-- Rob Russ with the Forsyth County Environmental Assistance and Protection Office is encouraging everyone to test their homes for harmful levels of radon gas.

Radon is a naturally occurring colorless, odorless, radioactive gas that comes from a breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water. It can seep into your home from underground through cracks in the foundation or other openings such as holes or pipes.

Radon is the number one leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.

You can buy do-it-yourself test kits through the Forsyth Co. Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection. They are located on the 5th floor of the Forsyth Co. Governmental Center in Winston-Salem.

Kits are $14.00.

Radon test kits can also be purchased at local home improvement stores.
