Greensboro, NC -- A new 100-acre campus for Guilford Technical Community College has been delayed.
The site for GTCC's new Cameron Campus in northwest Greensboro is quiet. Equipment is sitting on the land, unused.
GTCC officials broke ground for the new campus, right along Highway 68 in Oak Ridge, in August of 2010.
The campus will be paid for with $65 million in bonds that Guilford County taxpayers voted for in 2004 and 2008.
While GTCC officials estimated it would take 25 to 30 years to develop the entire campus, construction on the first phase was supposed to have already started.
The first phase was supposed to be ready to go by the spring of 2013.
On Wednesday, News 2 asked GTCC officials what the hold-up is.
Stan Turbeville, with GTCC, said the initial site work is complete, but they can't start any construction until they put the project out for bid again. Turbeville said the initial bids came in over budget.
The plans for the building have not changed, just the time frame in which they hoped to get it done.
The opening date for the first building has been pushed back to the spring of 2014.
Turbeville said they hope to award contracts in time to start construction by mid-summer.
