Burlington, NC-- An elderly woman used screaming and kicking to fight back against a man trying to rob her.
Burlington police said they received a call from Food Lion on N. Church St. on January 27 on an attempted robbery. Officers talked to a 69 year-old woman who reported that a man approached her after she had put her groceries and wallet into the trunk of her car. The victim said the man demanded she give him her ring on her finger or he would "shoot" her.
Instead of handing over her ring, police said the woman told man she would not give him her ring and started screaming and kicked the suspect on the leg. The woman said she did not see a gun in the suspect's hands because he had them in the pockets of the sweat shirt he was wearing.
According to the victim, the suspect ran away from the scene and she went into the store to call the police, because she does not carry a cell phone.
