Greensboro, N.C. -- This week is your chance to let city and community leaders know your thoughts about building a new Greensboro Performing Arts Center (GPAC). Key players in the decision making process will be available to answer your questions all this week.

A special task force is exploring ideas and options for the GPAC. Right now, there are three locations on the table to build the $60 million project. The task force estimated $15-20 million of the funding will come from private sources. The remaining 2/3 of the money (approximately $40 million) will come from city sources. Potential sources of city revenue include hotel/motel tax or even a tax on tickets to events at the center.

The entire process could take as long as five years to complete if everything remains on schedule. Keep in mind, the city council still has not approved moving forward with this project. It's still in an exploratory stage.

The task force tells WFMY News 2 that building the center would create 1288 construction jobs and pump $28.6 million into the local economy. After it's complete, estimates show the facility would employ 268 people and generate $7-10 million each year.
