Rockingham Co. And Greensboro Power Outages Affect Thousands

Greensboro, NC  --  UPDATE: The Greensboro Police confirms that power has been restored to thousands.

Jason Walls, a Duke Energy spokesperson, tells WFMY that a logging crew was cutting down a tree when it came in contact with the line.

Power was knocked out for approximately an hour and caused some headaches in morning routines across the Triad.


WFMY News 2 is on top of a story that is affecting thousands of people throughout the Triad this morning.

We have learned that there are thousands of power outages in Guilford and Rockingham Counties. 

There are more than 7 thousand outages in Guilford and more than 3 thousand in Rockingham County.  

In Greensboro, the following intersections are affected: 

Traffic lights out at Lake Brandt Road to Lawndale Dr.
Traffic lights out at Lake Jeanette Road and North Elm St.

In Wentworth:

Traffic lights are out on Highway 14 and Barrymore Rd. and the
911 center is operating on generators.

UPDATE: The GPD says that Duke Power confirms the cause of the outages in Greensboro are due to an issue with a transformer. Officers don't know which one.
