CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- With the NFL lockout officially over, the Carolina Panthers know they have plenty to do before heading to training camp Friday at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.

That includes making decisions on eight unrestricted free agents who were starters last season, signing No. 1 overall draft pick Cam Newton and whether to trade wide receiver Steve Smith.

General manager Marty Hurney said Monday that the team has been preparing for when the lockout ended, and now "it's time to get to work."

The eight starters who are now unrestricted free agents are defensive end Charles Johnson, running back DeAngelo Williams, quarterback Matt Moore, linebackers Thomas Davis and James Anderson, cornerback Richard Marshall, defensive tackle Derek Landri and tight end Jeff King.
